6.13.14 Spencer Update

Great news from the doctors today on several topics -

Breathing - Spencer continues to do well without additional assistance. He had another day where he resolved all of his episodes without assistance!

Heart - They did an echo cardiogram on his heart today. They were looking for a common condition in preemies called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). This is where the ductus fails to close on its own after birth which allows abnormal blood flow between arteries. For Spencer, the ductus has closed!

Chromosomal testing - Because Spencer had several abnormal ultrasounds, we had tests done for Downs, Trisomy 13 and 18, among other things, . We are happy to report all the tests came back negative!

Eating - Spencer has been getting 2 cc of breast milk every 3 hours. He has done well handling that intake so they are increasing it to 4 cc every 3 hours!

Blood vessels - They did an ultrasound on Spencer's brain to look for bleeding on the brain which would be coming from developing blood vessels. So far, so good - nothing was detected on the ultrasound.

I got to do kangaroo time with Spencer again today. We just nestled in and took a nap together. We are so thankful for our miracle child and attribute much of his early success to your prayers.

Thank you and keep praying!
