6-21-14 Carter update

Some of you have been asking how Carter is doing. He is taking all of this pretty well. You can tell he feels the stress of the situation. Sometimes he acts out or overreacts to things, but overall he is doing well. Actually, I am not sure he really understands what it will be like to have a little brother quite yet. He knows all the right answers, but since mom came home and everything feels the same, I don't think he really knows the change that will hit our house in the near future.

Here is how the conversation goes,
Mom - "Carter, who is the big brother?"
Carter - "Me"
Mom - "Who is your little brother?"
Carter - "Spencer James"
Mom - "Where is Spencer?"
Carter - "At hospital"

Carter hasn't actually met Spencer yet. The rule at the hospital is that you have to be fully potty trained, in underwear not Pull-ups, to visit the NICU. So, we are pretty much there with the potty training, but we want to make sure before we take him. If he were to have an accident, he wouldn't be able to come back. I wonder what it will be like for him to see Spencer for the first time. Hopefully he won't be scared by the incubator, or how small Spencer is, but I guess we will just see when he finally does visit him.
