3.27.14 Update

Well, as many of you know, we had our ultrasound/checkup scheduled for yesterday. I know we had a ton of people praying and thinking positive thoughts for us because I felt calm and peaceful going into the appointment. Thank you everyone!

During the ultrasound, it was apparent the hemorrhage had grown. We found out that the hemorrhage had grown from 58 cc to 143 cc. (To give you some perspective, that's about 8 cm long. In comparison, the baby is about 12 cm long.) However, the good news is that the baby is still growing right on schedule and heart is beating! More good news is that the hemorrhage and the placenta are not close to each other (Being close together is what would most likely cause the miscarriage). Here is a diagram I found that might help you picture all of this, however, in my case, the hemorrhage is not touching the placenta, like it is here. For me, the hemorrhage is on the right, baby in the middle, and placenta on the left.

Situations like these are considered high risk when the hemorrhage exceeds 73 cc. Because we have surpassed that, our doctor office referred us to a maternal-fetal specialist in Omaha and suggested we go that day, so we made the drive to Omaha and met with the specialist. We had a really great experience with this doctor. He had great bedside manner and was able to give us some additional details, but we didn't get any more options or solutions. He responded to my situation very similar to my OB - cautiously optimistic.

I think that is the point Matt and I are at as well. You would think we would be discouraged that the hemorrhage seems to be getting dangerously large, but we are taking it in stride. We know that no matter how much science, research or experts we see, it doesn't necessarily change our outcome. This is one of those situations that can't be controlled by any of us. We believe this is in God's control - whatever the outcome. That gives us a level of peace that can't be described.

That doesn't mean we don't have hard moments, or feel overwhelmed, but it helps us keep it all in perspective. We are thankful for every day the baby is still alive and growing. We choose to think positively that this will work itself out. And in the mean time, we are trying to enjoy each day and appreciate all the amazing people in our lives that are helping us out.
