2010 turned out to be a year of unexpected ups and downs....Fun trips (including the cruise!), 2 weddings, 2 new jobs, but also - 2 sudden deaths of very special people, and an unfortunately, an ectopic pregnancy/recovery for Matt and I.
With that, I am happy to ring in 2011 as we look forward to better days. It's not like the clock strikes midnight and everything changes, but there is something to how turning over a new year gives hope and a fresh start.
My friend Ruth hosted a fabulous New Year's Eve party and we had a lot of fun. Ruth has become a U.S. Citizen recently, so the party had a patriotic flare to it. We played a game where she quizzed us on the U.S. history questions she faced on her citizenship exam and she incorporated many of her New Year's traditions from Mexico. For instance - the 12 grapes represent each month of the new year and for good luck you must eat them all in 12 seconds after it strikes midnight. It's harder than it sounds! The pictures show how much fun this was.

So I saw these pictures on Facebook yesterday and was curious about the grapes, but then there was something about it on the news last night. The other Latin American tradition they mentioned was wearing yellow underwear. Did you participate in that one too? :)
